​Anhui leads future of new energy batteries through innovation

A science salon was held in Hefei, Anhui, on Sept 14, focusing on the evolution and future of new energy batteries.

Organized by Grand Union of Innovation (GUi), the event featured experts from varied fields, discussing advancements in battery technology and its impact on industries such as electric vehicles and aerospace.

Experts highlighted energy density as the core advantage of new energy batteries over traditional ones, as the solid-state batteries are considered the next breakthrough, despite facing current technical challenges. The discussion also emphasized the importance of battery safety.

Anhui, a pioneer in China's new energy vehicle industry, has witnessed rapid growth in electric vehicle production and battery technology. The province has developed a complete industrial and supply chain, from battery manufacturing to recycling, and is now positioned as a leader in this sector.

The new energy vehicle industry today has become one of the province's most prominent industries.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, Anhui produced 868,000 new energy vehicles in 2023, jumping from seventh to fourth place, with a 60.5-percent growth, representing 9.1 percent of the national total.

Additionally, of China's "New Three Products," one-fifth of solar modules, one-seventh of lithium batteries, and one-eighth of new energy vehicles are produced in Anhui.

In terms of new energy batteries, Anhui has developed a complete industrial chain, from battery manufacturing to recycling. In just the first half of this year, several power battery production projects, including Anhui's first sodium-ion battery cathode material production line, were launched.
