On April 22, the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) and the Agricultural Bank of China (ABC) held a meeting on promoting financial assistance for persons with disabilities in rural areas and sustaining the achievements in poverty alleviation for persons with disabilities.
Representatives from grassroots units in six provinces, cities, and counties exchanged experiences in financial assistance for persons with disabilities. ABC Life donated accident insurance to 26,000 persons with disabilities in the counties that receive paired assistance from the CDPF and ABC.
Li Dongmei, a member of the Leading Party Members Group and vice-chairperson of the CDPF, and Liu Jiawang, executive vice-president of ABC, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
Liu noted that ABC and the CDPF have promoted the financial assistance service model for persons with disabilities featuring the CDPF’s recommendations, ABC’s door-to-door loan processing, and benefits for households with persons with disabilities, effectively enhancing the employment and income of the group. Liu urged ABC branches at all levels to deepen cooperation in financial assistance for persons with disabilities, continue to increase credit support, and improve service quality and efficiency in this field. He also called for further innovation in financial services for persons with disabilities such as insurance assistance and consumption assistance, to enhance the accessibility of financial services for disabled individuals.
Li said that the collaboration between the CDPF and ABC in financial assistance for persons with disabilities is a concrete action to effectively prevent persons with disabilities from returning to poverty, and promote employment and income increase of persons with disabilities in rural areas. She called on disabled persons’ federations at all levels to raise awareness, leverage organizational advantages, actively communicate and coordinate with ABC branches at all levels, refine measures and enhance cooperation to ensure sustained and effective progress in financial assistance for this group. She also stressed widespread policy dissemination and the mobilization of more financial institutions to provide financial assistance for persons with disabilities, so that financial credit can truly become a powerful means to support persons with disabilities to develop production and increase income.
The meeting was held via video link, with officials from the CDPF, ABC, and the National Financial Regulatory Administration, as well as representatives from disabled persons’ federations at the provincial level and ABC first-level branches in attendance.
