A delegation from the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) led by Cheng Kai, chairman of the CDPF, visited disabled people in earthquake-stricken areas in Jishishan county in Gansu province and Minhe county in Qinghai province from Jan 15 to 20, 2024, and gained detailed insight into their losses as well as the resumption of their work and life.
Cheng visited the families of severely disabled people facing difficulties and disabled employees in need, inspected damaged service facilities for this group and reconstruction progress, and conducted survey on the grassroots work for people with disability.
Cheng and the delegation visited disaster-affected people at centralized resettlement sites in four townships across Jishishan and Minhe counties, as well as severely disabled individuals living in prefabricated houses . They communicated with the disabled and their families, learning about the disaster and post-disaster relief, inquiring about their difficulties and needs, and coordinated with local Party and government departments as well as disabled persons' federations to address the urgent needs of disabled persons in disaster-stricken areas.
Cheng said that the provincial, municipal, and county-level disabled persons' federations in disaster-stricken areas should prioritize the safety and well-being of disabled people, implement the guiding principle of the 8th China Disabled Persons' Federation National Congress, and effectively carry out assistance work for the severely disabled. They should give full play to their role as a link to promptly address the urgent concerns of disabled people in disaster-stricken areas, and resolutely hold the bottom line of preventing return to poverty, he noted.
Cheng also visited communities, rural pastoral areas, service institutions for the disabled, enterprises providing employment for people with disability, and social organizations, where he conducted in-depth survey focusing on employment, rehabilitation, and education for the disabled, consolidating achievements in poverty alleviation for persons with disabilities, as well as comprehensive service facilities and grassroots organizations for disabled people.
Cheng visited disabled employees in need with the Qinghai Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, held a symposium with representatives from the Center for Studies of Ethnic Groups in Northwest China of Lanzhou University, held meetings with grassroots disabled persons' federations and specialized associations, and carried out work exchanges with Party and government officials from Gansu and Qinghai provinces.
Officials from the CDPF departments and heads of the disabled persons' federations of Gansu and Qinghai provinces joined the delegation in the visit and surveys.
