Cheng Kai, chef de mission of the Chinese delegation to the 4th Asian Para Games and chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF), met with Kazuyuki Mori, president of the Japanese Paralympic Committee, at the Asian Para Games Village in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on Oct 23.
Cheng welcomed the Japanese delegation on their participation in the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou and introduced China's achievements in the field of disabled persons' affairs, particularly in the development of sports for the disabled. He emphasized that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the sports for persons with disabilities and has incorporated them into its national development strategies of building a Healthy China, a leading sports nation and carrying out national fitness campaign. China is committed to developing and improving its public cultural and sports facilities and services to ensure that people with disabilities can fully participate in various sports activities and enjoy cultural and sports life, he added.
In China, the progress in para sports has promoted the comprehensive development of the cause of people with disabilities, which has helped foster a favorable atmosphere of understanding, respecting, caring for, and supporting people with disabilities, he said, adding that the values of equality, integration, and sharing are widely received among the public, allowing more and more individuals with disabilities to achieve remarkable success in life and realize their dreams through participation in sports.
Cheng noted that the CDPF has maintained close contact and cooperation with Japanese organizations and relevant institutions for persons with disabilities in recent years, where the affairs of disabled persons have been included in the youth exchange program of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Toyota Motor Corporation donated accessible vehicles to assist people with disabilities.
In 2026, Aichi-Nagoya will host the next Asian Para Games following Hangzhou, Cheng expressed his hope that the two sides will take this opportunity to deepen cooperation in para sports and other areas.
Kazuyuki Mori lauded China for its achievements in the development of the cause of persons with disabilities and hoped to further enhance para sports cooperation and exchanges between the two countries and enhance friendship between their peoples.
Officials from the Sports Department and International Department of the CDPF attended the meeting.
