On Sept 11, five artists from the orchestra of China's National Centre for the Performing Arts presented a woodwind quintet chamber music concert in Beijing for people with disabilities and their families, people working with the disabled, and representatives from all walks of life.
They performed Chinese and Western compositions in different styles, offering a delightful auditory experience for the audience. The event marked the commencement of 100 philanthropic performances to be offered by China's National Centre for the Performing Arts for the disabled, People's Daily Online has reported.
At the performance, representatives of people with disabilities, students from the Beijing Union University's volunteer service team, and students from Beijing Jianxiang School, a partner in philanthropic projects with the Beijing Disabled Persons Service Demonstration Center, presented lively wheelchair fitness exercises, sign language dances, and Djembe performances.
The philanthropic performance also kicked off a two-month public welfare service campaign for the disabled in Beijing, said the Beijing Disabled Persons' Federation. During this campaign, a series of philanthropic service activities, including accessible film donations and the finals of the first Beijing municipal-level vocational rehabilitation labor skills competition for the disabled will be held.
"We hope to collaborate more with the National Centre for the Performing Arts in future philanthropic endeavors, and we welcome more compassionate organizations to engage in philanthropic service for persons with disabilities," said Yang Zhiqiang, director of the Beijing Disabled Persons Service Demonstration Center, organizer of the campaign.
Yang added that the 100 philanthropic performances of the National Centre for the Performing Arts for the disabled are a measure the demonstration center has taken to connect with philanthropic resources and help persons with disabilities share in the cultural development of the capital city.
It also reflects the commitment of the National Centre for the Performing Arts to the idea of "public welfare for the people, service above all", and its dedication to creating an accessible art palace for the people and benefiting the people, he said.
The event will also call on all sectors of society to take action, jointly promote a positive social atmosphere of assisting and supporting people with disabilities, and create a favorable social environment for the sustainable development of the cause of people with disabilities.
The Beijing Disabled Persons Service Demonstration Center was awarded the plaque of "National Sunshine Volunteer Service Base for Disabled Persons" on the same day. Since 2021, the demonstration center has built a volunteer service team for the disabled with the involvement of university students, compassionate enterprises, social organizations, and those working for the disabled, forming a regular service force of more than 200 people.
Focusing on the needs of the disabled, the center has trained 280 volunteers, provided volunteer services more than 4,000 times, and achieved excellent results.
