A series of winter sports events for disabled people kicked off in Harbin, Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, on Feb 9. Zhao Sujing, member of the leading Party members' group and vice-chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) , attended the opening ceremony.
Athletes from Heilongjiang province that took part in the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, and representatives of the disabled and their families participated in the event.
Zhao encouraged the disabled to participate in and enjoy winter sports, improve their physical fitness, and strive to integrate into society.
Zhao also talked with Wang Haitao, member of the national wheelchair curling team, and hoped the team members would train hard and prepare themselves for the 2026 Winter Paralympics. They need to take the lead in arousing the interest of more people with disabilities to participate in sports, Zhao added.
Zhao also conducted surveys at Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine, the Harbin Sport Institute and communities in Fushun City to learn about the construction of the University of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, the sports development of the disabled, and the grassroots organizations for the disabled.
