To commemorate the first anniversary of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games, a series of winter sports events kicked off and a winter sports carnival for the disabled in Beijing was launched at Beijing Expo Park on Feb 7.
Zhang Haidi, executive president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and chairperson of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF), attended the event.
Liu Yuhui, vice mayor of the Beijing Municipal Government, delivered a speech.
Zhang said that the central authorities have paid special attention to people with disabilities, and that the cause of the disabled in China is developing rapidly in the new era.
Talking with Yan Zhuo and Chen Jianxin, who won gold in the wheelchair curling event at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games, Zhang urged them to promote the spirit of the Beijing Winter Olympics and continuously improve their competitive skills, while encouraging other people with disabilities to participate in sports more frequently.
Zhang also communicated with officials of Beijing municipality and Yanqing district on the development of the cause of the disabled and the protection of people's livelihoods, and put forward specific opinions and suggestions on the most pressing difficulties of high concern to the disabled.
She hoped that the Party committees and governments at all levels in Beijing will pay more attention to the development of the cause of the disabled, and play a leading role in improving the livelihoods of the disabled.
Representatives of disabled persons in different districts, winter Paralympic athletes, and volunteers gathered together to commemorate the anniversary of the Beijing Paralympics.
Zhao Sujing, member of the leading Party members' group and vice-chairman of the CDPF, and heads of relevant departments of Beijing attended the event.
