Cheng Kai, vice-chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation (CDPF), recently hosted a work scheduling conference on poverty alleviation for people with disability Meitang county,  Southwest China's Guizhou province.

It needs to solve medical care and drinking water problems for people with disability, and consolidate and improve the results and quality of poverty alleviation while continuing to strengthen the fight against poverty through education, said Cheng.

The meeting mentioned some highlights and progress made in the southwestern region. By promoting typical examples of poverty alleviation for people with disability, disabled persons’ federations in Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan effectively stimulate people’s natural desire to join the struggle.

The followings are some specific work done by these organizations:

The Guangxi Disabled Persons’ Federation has set seven centers to carry out centralized care for people with severe disability. The Chongqiong Disabled Persons’ Federation solves the actual needs of people with disability living in poverty on a household basis. The Sichuan provincial Party committee includes the work of getting rid of poverty for people with disability in the assessment scope of the municipal and prefecture Party committees, and increases their living allowances by 10 yuan per year. The Guizhou Disabled Persons’ Federation relies on the big data platform to find out the status quo and needs of people with disability, invests more than 40 million yuan($5.61 million) and cooperates with more than 150 economic entities to stabilize their employment security fund, while the Yunnan Provincial Federation of the Disabled advances poverty alleviation through helping people with visual impairment.
