BEIJING - China has seen progress in social welfare and charities work in 2018, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs Thursday.

More than 10 million disabled people in financial difficulties and more than 11 million people with serious disabilities had benefited from subsidies offered by authorities during the past year, Minister of Civil Affairs Huang Shuxian said at a press conference in Beijing.

Huang said authorities had ensured more than 320,000 orphans were taken care of and provided assistance for 1.464 million homeless people.

Social organizations also played an active role in poverty alleviation and helping the needy people, Huang said, noting that the number of social workers had exceeded one million.
